Eat, Sleep, Read 2017 :: January 14
eat: I totally forgot to take a picture of what I ate today (even though I had a decent-looking pineapple fried rice I could've used), so here's a cup of creamy, sugary coffee, which I need every morning to get going.
sleep: Me and my nap buddy.
read: It's always interesting to read about communities in places you didn't know they had settled in: Mama and Papa Have a Store (based on the author's Chinese family in Guatemala).
happy: Scrabble game with the daughter and husband. I lost terribly but managed to get in the word "nap"! (Please excuse the short words we put down; our tile selection was pretty bad—either all consonants or all vowels for several turns!)

Eat, Sleep, Read 2017 :: January 13
eat: Harry and David Royal Riviera pear. They're pretty darn good ... especially when your coworker gives you one for free!
sleep: The two laziest members of the family napping together.
read: I was going to say that this book proves people are the worst. But it's really racism that's the worst. I want to copy the prologue and have everyone read it: Uprooted: The Japanese American Experience During the World War II.
happy: Shining moonlight at 6:55am.

Eat, Sleep, Read 2017 :: January 12
eat: Sigh. We're entering the last week of Obama's presidency. To soften the blow just a bit, Astro Doughnuts has a limited-time-only #FarewellObama doughnut: Ode to Obama! Of course I had to get it. It's inspired by his favorite foods: caramel corn, peanuts, and chocolate.
sleep: By Thursday I'm beat and I just want to fall asleep on any soft surface.
read: My husband's mom sent this to him out of the blue because she knows he likes the Muppets: I am Jim Henson.
happy: Silliness at work is not discouraged: wearing Piggie (from Mo Willem's Elephant and Piggie series) ears after an informal product photo shoot (which included these ears). Of course, a minute after I took this picture, important guests of my work came into our office area and I was still wearing them!

Eat, Sleep, Read 2017 :: January 11
eat: I've been trying to improve my diet slowly by eating a little bit less at mealtimes, trying to remember to eat fruits and vegetables during the day, and not snacking as much. Key word: trying.
sleep: The husband stays up a bit later than I do to watch TV; hence the empty pillow next to me.
read: If you've been to our house you know that I'm not much of a housekeeper. But that doesn't stop me from reading about cleaning & decluttering: Unf*ck Your Habitat.
happy: Slinky. This darn dog keeps peeing on our dining room rug in the middle of the night because he doesn't want to go out into the cold to do his business before bedtime. But I can't help but love him and his adorably sad face.

Eat, Sleep, Read 2017 :: January 10
eat: Today's lunch was from the soul food place across the street from work. I love fried chicken in all of its forms (always have) and my love for Southern Fried Chicken comes from my childhood next door neighbor's dad. He was from Louisiana and he was a great cook. It was always my favorite to spend the night at their house when he made fried chicken.
sleep: I've gotten a couple of comments asking who takes my sleeping pictures. *I* do—they're actually right-before-falling-asleep pictures. Is that cheating?
read: I'll probably end up posting a few pictures of myself reading this book. I have to finish reading it before Monday when I have Book Club!
happy: Sunrise. It was quite cold this morning again, but the sky was beautiful.

Eat, Sleep, Read 2017 :: January 9
eat: It was pretty darn cold this morning so I needed some extra sweetness to get me going. DD never fails to provide a good dose of sugar!
sleep: Sleeping on my stomach means that I go into a very deep sleep for a 20 minute nap.
happy: Spatula. Using a small off-set spatula to flip food in the pan makes me feel more "chef-y"!

Eat, Sleep, Read 2017 :: January 8
eat: Doesn't matter what "fancy" dish I make, the kids always like the potatoes best!
sleep: Always sad going to bed on Sunday night—it means I have to set my alarm and get ready for the work week.
happy: Stickers! I've always been a sticker hoarder but I'm making a concerted effort to actually use them this year, mostly in my bullet journal.
